Size guide — measure the paw, not the dog

How to measure

Stand your dog on a sheet of paper with their weight on the paw, and mark either side of the widest point — that is the width. Then mark front and back of the pad for the length. Weight matters: a lifted paw measures narrower than a standing one, and the sock has to fit the standing paw.

Width is the measurement that decides the fit. Note that the jump from M to L is mostly width (4.3 cm to 5.5 cm) rather than length. A dog with broad paws needs L even if the length says M.

These suit small and medium dogs. For a labrador or anything larger, the paw will be wider than 5.5 cm and these will not fit.

Before the first walk

Most dogs need a few short sessions indoors before they will walk normally in socks. Put them on, distract with a game or a treat, take them off after a couple of minutes, and build up. Going straight out on a walk usually ends with a dog refusing to move.
