A taut mesh sleeping surface stretched over a raised frame. Because your dog lies on fabric rather than against the floor, air moves underneath them on all sides — which is the whole point of a bed like this in warm weather.

Pick your size by weight

Size Suits a dog Typical breeds
1 10 – 20 kg Cocker spaniel, beagle, border terrier
2 25 – 35 kg Border collie, staffy, springer spaniel
3 35 – 50 kg Labrador, german shepherd, boxer
4 50 – 65 kg Rottweiler, newfoundland, great dane

Sizes go by weight rather than length, because the frame has to carry your dog without sagging. When you fall between two, take the larger — a frame at the top of its range will dip in the middle over time.

Up to 65 kg. Very few beds are rated that high, and it is the reason owners of giant breeds tend to end up with a raised frame rather than a conventional bed.

What you get

  • Raised frame with airflow underneath on every side
  • Taut mesh surface that stays flat rather than sinking into a dip
  • Moisture-proof fabric — wipes clean, handles damp paws, works indoors or in the garden
  • Non-slip feet that keep it in place when a big dog jumps on
  • Four sizes by weight, 10 kg up to 65 kg
  • No cover to wrestle off and wash — just wipe it down

When this is the right bed

Warm weather, conservatories, kitchens with underfloor heating, and gardens. Also useful for dogs that come in wet, since there is no padding to soak through.

And when it is not

This is a firm, ventilated surface, not a soft one. In winter that airflow works against you — a dog lying on a raised mesh frame in an unheated room is colder than one on a padded bed. For the winter months, a foam or plush bed will suit them better.

It is also not the right choice for an older dog with joint problems. A taut surface supports weight evenly but provides no cushioning, and arthritic dogs generally do better on thick foam.

Care

Wipe down with a damp cloth. Check the frame joints every few months, particularly on the larger sizes carrying a heavy dog.

What owners tell us

Golden retriever on a cooling mat
We bought the cooling mat for our Labrador during the warmer weather and it's been brilliant. He actually chooses to lie on it instead of the sofa now.

German shepherd on a faux fur bed
Our 10-year-old Golden Retriever absolutely loves this bed. He settled into it straight away and seems much more comfortable getting up in the mornings. The fabric feels really durable and the bed still looks brand new after a few weeks of daily use. Definitely worth every penny.
David H. Bristol · Faux Fur Dog Bed
Cat with elevated food bowl
I ordered the elevated cat bowl for my British Shorthair and I'm so pleased with it. It looks lovely in the kitchen, feels sturdy and is much easier for her to eat from. The bowls are simple to remove and clean, which is a big plus. Very happy with the purchase.
