Stairs, car boots and slippery floors get harder as a dog ages, and the usual answer — a hand under the belly — puts your back out and does not give your dog much to balance against. This lift harness spreads the load across a padded panel with handles, so you can take some of their weight without either of you struggling.

Pick your size

Measure the girth around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, and check it against the size chart in the images.

How to use it well

Support, do not lift outright. The point is to take part of the weight so your dog can still use their own legs — a dog carried entirely loses the muscle that keeps them mobile. Lift with your legs, keep the harness close to your body, and go slowly on stairs.

If your dog has a diagnosed joint or spinal condition, ask your vet how much support is appropriate before you start using one.
