Pick your size

Four sizes, L through to XXXL. Measure your dog lying down, nose to base of tail, and add roughly 15 cm. The bolster takes up space around the edge, so the flat sleeping area is smaller than the outer measurement.

Between two sizes, take the larger one. A dog whose legs hang off the edge will end up sleeping on the floor next to the bed.

Who this suits

Larger and heavier dogs, older dogs who are slower getting up in the morning, and any dog that has already worked its way through a thin bed. The combination of a firm base and a soft edge suits dogs who sleep stretched out but still want something to rest their head on.

A word on what orthopaedic foam does: it spreads weight evenly so pressure does not concentrate on hips, elbows and shoulders. It makes a hard floor considerably more comfortable. It is not a treatment for joint disease — if your dog is stiff, limping or reluctant to move, that is a conversation with your vet.

Care

Unzip the cover and machine wash cool. Air dry rather than tumbling on high heat. If the foam has been compressed in transit, give it a day flat to recover its full loft before deciding on the thickness.
