A small microfibre towel sized for paws rather than whole dogs. Keep one by the back door and the four muddy feet get dealt with before they reach the hallway.

Why a separate paw towel

A full-size towel gets soaked and muddy on the first walk, then sits in the wash while the next one happens. A stack of small ones means you always have a clean, dry paw towel to hand and only wash them when the pile runs out.

How to use it

Take the paw in the towel and squeeze rather than rub — rubbing pushes grit into the pads and most dogs object to it. Work between the toes, which is where mud actually collects.

Wash without fabric softener; it coats the fibres and reduces how much they absorb.
