Most dogs do not sleep stretched out. They curl, tuck their nose under a back leg, and push their spine against something solid. A donut bed is built around that: a deep round base with a padded rim the whole way round, so wherever they turn there is a wall to lean into.

Pick your size

Size Outer diameter Suits a dog up to Typical breeds
40 cm 40 cm 4 kg Chihuahua, kitten, toy poodle
50 cm 50 cm 8 kg Yorkshire terrier, pug, shih tzu
60 cm 60 cm 15 kg French bulldog, jack russell, cavalier
70 cm 70 cm 25 kg Cocker spaniel, beagle, border collie

The measurement is the outside, rim included. That matters more here than on a flat bed: the rim takes up a good few centimetres all the way round, so the sleeping space in the middle is noticeably smaller than the number suggests.

Measure your dog curled up, nose to tail, and add roughly 15 cm. When you fall between two sizes, take the larger one — a donut bed that is slightly roomy still works, one that is too tight gets ignored.

What you get

  • Dense plush pile that holds warmth through the colder months
  • Padded raised rim right the way around — a headrest and a wall in one
  • Deep, soft base rather than a thin pad over a hard floor
  • Machine washable
  • Four sizes, 40 cm to 70 cm
  • Six colours: beige, grey, green, pink, black and brown

Why dogs settle in them

Curling into a rim is a natural sleeping position, and being enclosed on all sides is something most dogs seem to prefer to lying out in the open. It is why this shape is often the bed people reach for when the evenings get noisy in autumn, or when a dog is unsettled in a new home.

To be clear about what that means: the shape suits how dogs like to sleep. It is not a treatment, and a genuinely frightened dog needs more than a bed — a quiet room, a covered crate, and time.

Is this the right shape for your dog?

Good for curlers, for dogs who sleep against the sofa or in a corner, and for smaller breeds who lose heat quickly.

Less good for a dog who sprawls flat on their side, or one who overheats easily — deep plush holds warmth, which is the point in January and a nuisance in July. For a stretcher, a flat foam bed is the better buy.

Care

Machine wash cool. Reshape the rim by hand while it is still damp so it dries with its loft intact — a donut bed that dries flat never quite recovers. Line dry rather than tumbling on high heat.

What owners tell us

Golden retriever on a cooling mat
We bought the cooling mat for our Labrador during the warmer weather and it's been brilliant. He actually chooses to lie on it instead of the sofa now.

German shepherd on a faux fur bed
Our 10-year-old Golden Retriever absolutely loves this bed. He settled into it straight away and seems much more comfortable getting up in the mornings. The fabric feels really durable and the bed still looks brand new after a few weeks of daily use. Definitely worth every penny.

Cat with elevated food bowl
I ordered the elevated cat bowl for my British Shorthair and I'm so pleased with it. It looks lovely in the kitchen, feels sturdy and is much easier for her to eat from. The bowls are simple to remove and clean, which is a big plus. Very happy with the purchase.
