The curve is the point. Straight-toothed combs sit awkwardly against a rounded body, so they only ever contact properly in the middle. A curved head follows the shape of the flank and chest, which means each pass actually reaches the undercoat rather than skimming the top.

Work in short strokes in the direction of the coat, and never force the comb through a solid mat — cut it out or take your dog to a groomer instead. Suits dogs and cats with medium to long coats.
