Where the suction actually works

Tile, laminate, sealed wood, glass and smooth metal. It will not hold on carpet, rugs, textured vinyl or unsealed floorboards — suction needs a flat, non-porous surface. Wipe the base and the floor before sticking it down; dust is the usual reason a suction cup lets go.

Getting a dog interested

Most dogs do not work out a stationary tug toy on their own. Start by holding it and playing tug the normal way, then stick it down while they are already engaged. Once they know pulling is the game, they will go back to it by themselves.

Safety

Supervise the first few sessions. A determined dog can pull the base free, and the toy coming loose mid-tug takes them by surprise. Check the rubber regularly and replace it once pieces start coming away.
