Reflective Dog Harness Vest - Breathable Mesh, Adjustable, Chest 34 to 98 cm

A breathable mesh harness with reflective strips down both sides and a steel D-ring on the back. It clips on at the side rather than going over the head, which matters for dogs who dislike having things pulled past their ears.

Size guide

Measure the chest, not the weight. Weight is a rough guide only — a barrel-chested staffy and a lean whippet can be identical on the scales and two sizes apart on the tape. Run a tape around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, and pick from that.

The ranges overlap deliberately, because the harness adjusts at both the chest and the belly. If your dog falls in two sizes, take the smaller one — you will have more adjustment left as it stretches with use.

Getting the fit right

You should be able to slide two fingers flat under any strap. Tighter and it rubs behind the front legs; looser and a determined dog can back out of it, which is the failure that matters most on a road.

Check the fit again after the first few walks. Webbing settles and most harnesses need one more adjustment after a week.

A note on the reflective strips

Reflective material works by bouncing light back at its source — headlights, a torch, a bike lamp. It makes your dog considerably easier to see on a lit road or when a car comes round a bend. It does nothing in genuine darkness with no light source, so for unlit footpaths and fields you want a light-up collar as well.

Care

Hand wash in cool water and air dry. Avoid the tumble dryer — heat degrades the reflective coating faster than anything else.
